Gold paper: 1 piece 1 1/4" x 5 1/2" & 1 piece 1 3/4" x 5 1/2"
Rose Red Paper: 1 1/2" x 5 1/4"
3 - 2inch punched pieces of card stock (2 of rose red, one gold)
3 black scalloped punches (If you don't have the punch, you can cut a circle and use scallop scissors. This is how I learned, it's a bit of a challenge cutting but it works)
3 grommets or brads or whatever you want for the center of the circles
One black piece of ribbon, about 15 inches.
You'll also need double stick tape, scissors, hammer (see me girly girl hammer?) and something to set your grommets or brads
Inside of card: mounted with rise red that's 5 1/4" x 4" and then a piece of white that's 5" x 3 3/4"
Step 2: Start by taping thread to back of paper and begin to wrap by the scallop labeled #1. I always wrap to the right of the number so that i don't miss any. Depending on how tight you want your spirelli will determine how many numbers you skip between wraps. I started with #1 and went to # 6 (remember to go to the right of each number). Follow this wrapping all the way around, #1 to #6, #2 to #7, #3 to #8 until you end up back at #1 again. (Don't go around again on #1. )
Once you have finished off the first one, tape the string down in the back and then go on to the next two circles (if you're doing this design) and repeat all steps for those two. When finished, you'll have three spirelli's done.
Once all 3 are complete, mount them on the circles you cut out previously with double sided tape. (Be careful when taping that you don't loosen the string)
Grab your girly girl hammer and set a grommet or brad through the center of each spirelli circle. I've seen people use grommets, brads, rhinestones, flowers, and even stamps on the center of these. It's up to you what you want to you to make yours look great! After putting your centers in place, put 3 dimensional dots on the back so that when you place these on your card, they stand up from the back of the card a little bit. You can just apply double sided tape to mount them if you want but with the string on the back, the dimensional dots work much better I think.
add your paper to your card by applying the gold to the top. Mount the rose red onto the top of the gold and tie on your ribbon. (I like to apply a little tape on to the backside of the paper to keep my ribbon in place.) Peel of the backing for the dimensional dots and place the spirelli circles on to your card where you want the. If you haven't done so already, add paper to the inside of card so someone has a place to write and then sign the back of your creation!!
Next time, we'll go on to the next level of spirelli where I'll teach you how to wrap a square and also do layered techniques.
Hope you enjoyed! Until next time!
